Social Work Services

WHAT IS A SOCIAL WORKER?

Like doctors and nurses, social workers must have specialized education and training as well as a license to work in the State of Texas. Almost every social worker at Parkland has a Master's of Science Degree in Social Work.

HOW CAN A SOCIAL WORKER HELP ME?

While you are being treated for your cancer or blood disorder we can provide you with information on area agencies you can contact for possible assistance with financial and housing issues. We can also give you contact information about places you can get social and emotional support from as a cancer survivor.

You are a cancer survivor from the time you are diagnosed!

We can also help with the following concerns:

  • If you need information booklets about your cancer or the side effects of treatment
  • We can provide information about the emotions you may experience after your diagnosis
  • You need someone to listen to your fears and concerns
  • A member of your family or a friend needs emotional support
  • We have information on groups and meetings in the area so you can talk to other people who are going through cancer treatment or who have completed treatment
  • Give you information about Advanced Directives
