UT Epilepsy Center

The staff of the UT Epilepsy Center at Parkland Memorial Hospital is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with epilepsy. We offer the most comprehensive, specialized services available with treatment options ranging from medication management to surgery. Our Epilepsy Center uses a multidisciplinary approach combining clinical and academic talents from the UT Southwestern Medical School and Parkland's own experts in epilepsy.

Patients with difficult to diagnose or difficult to control seizure disorders can benefit from an evaluation at the UT Epilepsy Center at Parkland. In addition, patients with non-epileptic seizures or drug toxicity can also benefit. Evaluations consist of both outpatient and in-patient services.

Statistically, 20 percent of patients with epilepsy have proven to be medically intractable and need a comprehensive evaluation. The National Institute of Health (NIH) recommends that patients who have not achieved seizure control within two years of their diagnosis of epilepsy should seek further evaluation at a specialized epilepsy center.

The UT Epilepsy Center at Parkland should be the program of choice since we not only offer the latest in evaluation techniques, we have one of the largest number of inpatient evaluation units in the US and have the longest history (since 1983) of specialized epilepsy services in the Southwest. Faculty physicians with extensive experience can diagnose and treat patients in a cost-effective manner. Alternate facilities routinely require additional costly diagnostic procedures however our physicians' experience allows comparative patient outcomes while bypassing extensive evaluations and lengthy hospitalizations.

Since the Center's inception, physicians have treated thousands of patients for hard-to-control seizures and can boast a significant success rate and a reputation for excellence. The Epilepsy Center qualifies as a Level VI (the highest level) program and is a past recipient of an award for quality patient care from The National Association of Public Hospitals.
