Simmons Ambulatory The Simmons Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), located at 4900 Harry Hines Blvd., is the first new facility in 20 years on Parkland’s main campus. The two-story center houses six surgical and four endoscopic suites, as well as a pain center, physician offices and preparatory and recovery rooms. ASC opened in January 2007, and is a much-needed asset to Parkland and its patients. Each year, Parkland handles about 200 more surgeries per room than most hospital systems in Dallas. In fact, the utilization of Parkland’s OR far exceeds the average for all academic medical centers in the country. The ASC helps alleviate the strain caused by high demand. Currently Parkland’s operating rooms accommodate emergency as well as scheduled operations. More than 30 percent of Parkland’s surgery is unscheduled because of the institution’s role as a distinguished safety-net hospital, Level I trauma center and regional burn center. Just as importantly, the center enables Parkland to better manage an increasing volume of emergencies and planned surgeries. The Simmons Ambulatory Surgery Center is a partnership of Parkland Health & Hospital System, Parkland Foundation and the community. By the numbers The ASC:
