The Dallas County Hospital District, doing business as Parkland Health & Hospital System, is governed by an eleven-member Board of Managers appointed by the Dallas County Commissioners Court. The Board is responsible for governing policies and also has budgetary oversight for the hospital district.
The Board plays an active part in ensuring Parkland maintains the highest possible level of quality and safety. Members of the Board of Managers are appointed for three-year terms and are limited to two terms – or six years. Ten members of the Board are selected by individual Court officials, while the remaining one serves in an at-large capacity.
Board members meet the third Friday of every quarter and do not receive compensation for their service. Board members must resign after serving two consecutive terms but are still eligible to be reappointed by the Commissioners Court if they are otherwise qualified under law to continue service on the Board. The Commissioners Court fills the remainder of any un-expired term and the person so selected serves until such un-expired term terminates and until a successor is appointed and qualified. The Board is responsible for governing policies, and also has budgetary oversight for the hospital district. Parkland's president and chief executive officer is the only employee who reports directly to the Board of Managers.
