Public health employees often face a daunting task: the demand for health care services is high and the needs of patients, often the most vulnerable people in a community, are complex and challenging.
The staff of Parkland Health & Hospital System will take time during the second week of May to celebrate 2014 National Hospital Week, the nation’s largest health care event, by focusing on the rewards and satisfactions of playing a vital role in serving the community. This year’s theme, “Compassion, Innovation, Dedication: The Commitment Continues,” reflects the passion of Parkland employees for serving people entrusted to their care.
Every day, thousands of people seek medical help from Parkland providers. From a trauma patient transported to Parkland’s
Emergency Room for life-saving treatment to a mother welcoming a new life in
Labor and Delivery or a child being cared for in the
Burn Center, people in Dallas and the North Texas region rely on Parkland to be there for them 24/7, 365 days a year, to offer comfort, healing and hope.
“The mission of Parkland is written in the hearts of Parkland employees – we are ‘dedicated to the health and well-being of individuals and communities entrusted to our care,’” said Fred P. Cerise, MD, Parkland’s CEO. “Having served in public health my entire career, I can tell you that a mission statement is only as strong as the people behind it. I’m proud to say that every day, I witness men and women at Parkland who embody those meaningful words and bring our purpose to life.”
National Hospital Week dates back to 1921 when it was launched in Chicago to promote trust and goodwill among members of the public toward their local hospitals. Eventually, the celebration spread to facilities across the country.
