Salute to the North Texas hospital workforce
Parkland Health & Hospital System employees Olicia Day and Farhenaaz Ajani, RN were among the 14 individuals recognized by the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council (DFWHC) Foundation at its 23rd annual Employee of the Year Luncheon held April 25 in Hurst. More than 700 attendees turned out to honor 130 nominees and 14 announced winners from a pool of 55 area hospitals.
“We hope this is a memorable day for these great North Texas hospital employees,” said Kristin Tesmer, president of the DFWHC Foundation. “The goal of this luncheon is to make a difference in the quality of care by boosting morale of our hospital staffs, maintaining retention of a strong workforce and recognizing the importance of each employee. All of these nominees deserved to be recognized and it was our honor to applaud every one of them.”
Day, who is a contract administrator in Parkland’s Clinical Education department, was the recipient of the System Award.
“Her motto is ‘Get it done, organize, prioritize and never say no.’ She is a role model we should all want to be like,” her nomination reads in part. “She does everything with a smile regardless of her life situations or circumstances. She never meets a stranger and is willing to help anyone who needs it.”
As a trauma nurse clinician, Ajani serves as unit manager, charge nurse, preceptor, mentor and overall resource on her unit. Her colleagues wrote in her nomination, “It did my heart wonders to see how far and above she went to help everyone. Her attention to detail and awesome attitude only help remind me why I chose to become a nurse so many long years ago!”
Board members of the Dallas-Fort Worth Healthcare Human Resources Association judged nominations in late March. Individual and hospital names were removed in advance and selections were based entirely on the facts presented within the nominations. Nominees were then separated into four categories of hospitals including 1-99 beds, 100-250 beds, 251-499 beds and 500-plus beds. Parkland is licensed for 870 beds.
