The birth of a new baby is a happy time that is filled with many changes. You will have questions about the ways your life will change as you become a parent. Whether you are expecting your first child or you are already a parent, Parkland provides education classes in a caring environment where you are encouraged to ask questions and talk openly about any worries. Classes are taught by nurses, childbirth teachers and lactation consultants.
To register for any of the classes, please call 214-590-BEBE or 214-590-2323 for help in both English and Spanish. Space is limited, so please sign up for each class in advance.
Preparation for childbirth classes
This is a series of two classes that will help parents get ready for the birth of their baby. You will learn:
- What to expect while you are pregnant
- What to expect during labor and delivery
- How to relax and breathe during labor and delivery
- Ways your birth partner can help you during labor and delivery
- More about the hospital, including a tour of the building and the Labor and Delivery area
The classes are taught by certified childbirth teachers and nurses. Classes fill up quickly, so register in the middle of your second trimester of pregnancy. Because babies can sometimes arrive early, it’s best not to wait until close to your due date to take your class.

Lactation services
You may have questions about breastfeeding your baby and how to get started. We are here to help. Our certified lactation consultants can visit your room after your baby is born. This free service will allow us to help you with any questions or concerns while you are still in the hospital. Talk to your nurse to schedule a visit with a lactation consultant.

A hospital tour is included for those who register for childbirth classes. Couples not attending a childbirth class can attend a free tour. Tours are offered in English and Spanish. To get the most out of your tour:
