Sadly, violence or disaster can happen anywhere and at any time. But you can prepare. Knowing how to act can mean the difference between life and death.
Parkland’s trauma staff is offering training to all Parkland employees – even non-clinical staff – on how to stop bleeding wounds and help save a life anywhere, any time
You, too, can learn how to
stop the bleed.
Remember “Safe ABC”
There are three important steps to remember, according to
Stop the Bleed, Save a Life, a publication from The American College of Surgeons.
Safe - Most importantly, always ensure your own safety first. Scan your surroundings to make sure that it’s safe to offer aid.
A – Alert – call 9-1-1
B – Bleeding – find the bleeding injury
C – Compress – apply pressure to stop the bleeding by:
- Covering the wound with a clean cloth and applying pressure by pushing directly on the wound with both hands, OR
- Using a tourniquet, OR
- Packing (stuff) the wound with gauze or a clean cloth and then applying pressure with both hands.
