Public invited to tour parts of the hospital on April 11
Parkland Health & Hospital System officials are hosting an open house at the new Parkland hospital from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 11. This will be the last opportunity for members of the public to tour the new facility before it opens to patient care on August 20.
Dallas County residents are invited to take self-guided tours in four areas of the hospital – emergency/trauma, an operating suite, Women & Infants Specialty Health and an inpatient unit where private patient rooms will be available for viewing. Weather permitting the Wellness Garden will be open for casual strolls along the walkway that puts the “park” back in Parkland. Those attending are encouraged to take the DART green line, which features a stop adjacent to the new Parkland hospital. Free parking will be available in the Tower Garage, located at the corner of Harry Hines Boulevard and Medical District Drive. Look for more details by using the parking map.
“It’s important that Dallas County residents see the facility they approved when they cast their vote in favor of a new health care campus in 2008,” said Debbie D. Branson, chair of Parkland’s Board of Managers. “This state-of-the-art medical campus will serve millions of patients for many years to come. We’re eager for donors, residents, taxpayers and patients to see the results of that investment in the future – a facility that will serve Dallas for generations.”
The new Parkland is designed with the patient in mind. This patient-centered approach creates a healing environment with single patient rooms, windows and natural light as well as more space for family and visitors. An on-stage/off-stage model provides comfort, quiet and enhanced safety for the patient as well as efficiency for staff.
“For decades, Parkland has been at the forefront of public healthcare in America,” said Fred Cerise, MD, MPH, Parkland’s President & CEO. “The legacy of this institution is cemented as an innovator in providing quality care for the medically underserved, a leader in clinical expertise in specialties like burns and trauma, and as a pioneer of 21st century transformational care processes.”
