Harry Hines Boulevard will be closed for public traffic between Butler Street and Medical District Drive beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, through 8:30 a.m. Saturday Nov. 15. Emergency vehicles will be allowed to pass through either the northbound lanes or southbound lanes of Harry Hines as directed by police. DART busses will be detoured, but will run on normal schedules.
Installation Plan
Two sections of the bridge will be set; the first over the southbound lanes of Harry Hines and the second over the northbound lanes. Beginning at approximately 10 p.m. on Nov. 14 the crane will be erected in the southbound lanes to set the first sections. The southbound lanes will open once the area is cleaned. At approximately 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 15, the crane will be moved to the northbound lanes and remain there until the second section is set. After the second section is set and the area cleaned, all lanes will open to traffic at approximately 8:30 a.m.
DART
The DART stop at Zale Lipshy University Hospital will be kept open using an alternate route, which will begin at 10 p.m. on Nov. 14 and continue for approximately six hours as the first section is set. Once the first section is set, the southbound lanes of Harry Hines will be opened for bus traffic. Other DART busses will be routed around the construction.
Emergency Access
The stationed DCHD Police can, at any time, declare an emergency and grant access to necessary vehicles on either the northbound or southbound side of Harry Hines. At no time will all lanes of Harry Hines be impassable, although closed to the public. Fire trucks needing simple access on Harry Hines past Parkland or patients that require access to any of the hospitals affected by this closure will be permitted that access, escorted by DCHD Police.
