Walking around the new Parkland Memorial Hospital, the commitment to sustainability is evident. There are more than 650
trees, 16,000 shrubs and 120,000 ground cover plants throughout the new campus. The buildings themselves hold three LEED® Gold certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council for high performance in sustainable site development, water savings,
energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. But did you know that there’s a Sustainability team at Parkland that works to further these efforts and reduce the hospital's environmental impact year-round?
Earth Day is Friday, April 22. To learn more about the efforts of Parkland’s Sustainability team, stop by the Parkland booth
at Earth Day Texas from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, or Sunday, April 24, in Fair Park. If you want to get involved
yourself, take advantage of our Prescription take-back event, which allows you to turn in your expired or unused medications so that they can be disposed of properly from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30
at one of three locations:
- Garland Health Center (802 Hopkins Rd., Garland)
- Hatcher Station Health Center (4600 Scyene Rd., Dallas)
- Simmons Ambulatory Surgery Center (4900 Harry Hines Blvd., Dallas)
This event is a partnership between Sustainability, the North Texas Poison Center, Pharmacy and the Dallas County Hospital
District Police Department. It is free and open to the public.
