Area’s top nurses recognized for their many contributions
Eight registered nurses at Parkland Health & Hospital System are among those being honored as 2021 Dallas/Fort Worth Great 100 Nurses. The program has been celebrating nursing excellence for 31 years, honoring nurses from all practice areas including acute care, sub-acute care, school nursing, nurse leaders, academics and more.
The Parkland RNs earning recognition are:
• Brittany Pahl, BSN, RN, CA-SANE, CCRN, Women’s and Infants’ Specialty Health
• Cornelius Brewer-Bell, MHA/Ed, RN, Clinical Education
• Juan Bahena, MSN, RN, Population Health
• Mihret Woldeab, BSN, RN, Burn Acute Care Unit
• Mindy Michel-Ezeh, MSN, RN, Emergency Services
• Mary “Molly” Case, MHA, BSN, RN, A-CTTP, CSSGB, Virtual Care
• Robert Thompson, MBA, BSN, RN, Virtual Care
• Tamika Christman, BSN, RN-BC, Acute Response Clinic, Bachman
The nurses honored for the annual award were selected from hundreds of nominations submitted by patients, families, colleagues, teachers and co-workers.
“Their dedication to serving our community during the COVID-19 pandemic is truly inspirational as they continue to support and provide excellent patient care to the hundreds of thousands of patients who come through our doors,” said Karen Watts, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, Executive Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive. “We are proud and grateful to all Parkland nurses and particularly these individuals who were recognized for their outstanding contributions to Parkland.”
A total of 4,312 nurses are currently employed system-wide at Parkland serving patients at inpatient, outpatient and Dallas County Jail facilities. They provide vital care in specialties ranging from primary care to anesthesiology, oncology, emergency services, labor and delivery, behavioral health services, diabetes, neurology, cardiology and many more.
The Dallas/Fort Worth Great 100 Nurses awards celebration was founded in 1991. Beth Mancini, PhD, RN, Parkland’s former Chief Nursing Officer, was one of the founders who served as chair and emceed the event for 18 years.
The Great 100 Nurses celebration raises the awareness of the contributions of nurses to patient care, research, leadership, education and community service of nurses practicing in the DFW area. In addition, the celebration builds the image of nursing through positive reinforcement of the profession as a scientific art and the recognition of those who exemplify excellence.
