New Parkland puts radiology at care provider’s fingertips

When speed is of the essence, an image offers an important piece of the puzzle in the diagnosis and treatment for many patients. More than 141,000 square feet is devoted to imaging in the new building – the equivalent of nearly two and a half football fields – making it easier to get the right image to diagnose a patient and provide the necessary care quickly and efficiently.

In trauma and emergency situations, a few minutes can mean the difference between life and death. Four of the ten trauma/resuscitation rooms at new Parkland are equipped with built-in individual X-ray systems to allow instant viewing of images. Dedicated space within the Emergency Department will house technology that will provide diagnostic, CT and ultrasound imaging along with equipment for emergent ear and eye exams. The location in the Emergency Department and the breadth of imaging available gives medical care providers tools that can help make decisions rapidly and without leaving the area.

To ensure care providers have quick access to necessary images, advanced diagnostic imaging technology is strategically scattered throughout the hospital. In addition to the imaging modalities located on the second floor of the acute tower, an MRI is housed in the fourth floor Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for neonates and a CT scanner is located on the hospital’s 16th floor designed to serve patients in intensive care.
